About the event

Singing awakens our senses, renews our spirits, and connects us in community. The Celtic ethos has always grasped that everything is interrelated and humans are a part of a whole.  This time of year marks St Brigid’s Day, the patron saint of Ireland. It is also known as Candlemas or in old Irish, as Imbolc, meaning “in the belly.”

Internationally renown vocal artists Virginia Schenck and Ruth Cunningham will facilitate a half-day, interactive workshop that draws on Celtic wisdom through poetry, songs and sound.  In this workshop we will sing prayers and chants together, drawing on the ancient wisdom of our Celtic ancestors that have held civilizations for centuries, as well as drawing forth from our bellies the new wisdoms and sounds waiting to be born.

ABOUT RUTH AND VA:

Virginia is a renowned international jazz vocalist and Ruth an early music chant expert from the iconic Anonymous 4 ensemble. Ruth Cunningham is a founding member Anonymous 4 and a sound healing practitioner. She specializes in early music performance as well as improvisational sacred music from varied spiritual traditions in both liturgical and concert settings. VA Virginia Schenck is an accomplished international vocal artist and jazz performer utilizing both straight-ahead, spoken word, and free improvisation. As a spiritual thought leader, VA has proudly shared the stage with other trailblazers including author and activist Marianne Williamson; Krista Tippett; Richard Rohr, and Anglo-Irish poet and author David Whyte.
