Our Story Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her" (Luke 10:38-42). Sisters, Mary and Martha, offer two perspectives of how to interact in the world. Martha devoted her energy to preparing for Jesus while sister Mary listened intently to his teachings. At different times in our lives, we find themselves being either “Mary" or “Martha”. Reflecting on your role in the world and finding balance is part of the goal of MMP. Mary & Martha’s Place was established in 1994 by a group of women who were deeply committed to theological education, spiritual growth, social justice and ecological consciousness. They believed that women need a community where they can reflect on their lives, find their own voices and articulate their unique spiritual experiences. We welcome you to join the circle for an event or a series. Maggie Harney, Founding Director Rebecca Parker, Program Director Maxine Watkins, Administrative Assistant Mission Statement: Mary & Martha’s Place is an inclusive community that strives to integrate spiritual growth, social justice and ecological consciousness through theological education, celebrations and rituals.
"I came to MMP in 1996 when I landed a job at …a very male dominated patriarchal institution. So amazing I found my way here—the perfect antidote! Thank you, thank you!" "There are not words to express my gratitude to MMP, my major spiritual home for lo these many years, so I will just say: Thanks be to God. Amen and amen." "MMP – life, hope, love, prayer, safety, encouragement, being REAL, reverence AND just plain FUN!! Gracias!"
