Summer Wisdom Reading Group
Cynthia Bourgeault’s new book, The Heart of Centering Prayer, will be our subject for four sessions. We will use Cynthia’s daylong seminar at Boston College as our guide for exploring the book. The lecture is divided into four sections; we will look at one section each gathering.
Format for the Summer Wisdom Reading group: Open with brief readings, chant, centering prayer; Introduction to the theme of the day by Rebecca Parker; Listen to Cynthia’s teaching, pausing for discussion; Close with questions and discussion, and poetry.
Participants may choose to purchase and read the accompanying book: The Heart of Centering Prayer: Nondual Christianity in Theory and Practice, by Cynthia Borgeault. While this is the source for her talk, she does not go through the book systematically. Participants will be informed for the gathering by reading the book, but it is not necessary to read prior to class. Rebecca will reference the chapters Cynthia is referring to in the book from the lectures.
Mondays, 10:00am – 12:30pm
June 19, July 10, July 24, August 21
Class meetings are $25 at the door, or $90 for all four summer sessions ($22.50 each).
Rebecca Parker, MDiv, is the executive director of Mary & Martha’s Place and has been facilitating a Cynthia Bourgeault study group on various topics for four years. She is a student of Cynthia Bourgeault, has attended over 13 Wisdom Schools on various topics and has served as an intern.
Special Thursday Class Summer Sessions
Thursday, August 24: “Generation to Generation,” with Maggie Harney
11:00am – 12:30pm (please note: there is no pre-class meditation during summer sessions)
Come share your experience of passing important information among family members. What do you want others to know? What do you wish someone would have told you? Do you have a living will? Do you want your diamond ring to go to your only grandson? Where is your bank box? Do you want your diaries to be burned or can others read them? How important is that bowl that came from Great Aunt Betsy? Where is the research you have done on your mother’s side of the family?
There are stories that cluster around family possessions and vital information that families need to know. Join us as we talk together about our experiences of sharing information among the generations.
Cost is $25, payable by cash or check at the door.
